STOLEN BIKE ALERT; San Francisco; Merckx & Colnago
I wanted to alert the forum community here of two bikes that were stolen from my home in San Francisco during the middle of the night last night.
One, a Colnago C40 seen here in this thread: http://forums.thepaceline.net/showth...31#post1373131 The other, a 2004 Merckx MX Leader, that I purchased here about 5 months ago and just finished building up with full DA 7700 group including NOS DA hubs laced to NOS Ambrosio Nemesis rims, Vittoria tubulars, etc. etc. Seen here: http://forums.thepaceline.net/showthread.php?t=136272 I am obviously working with the local police to hopefully track the bikes down. If anyone on here see's these pop up on ebay or their local craigslist, please PM or email me ASAP. Help me nab these thieves and get these classics back in my possession! |
Dude, these look to be yours.

Hey dude, the SFPD has your bikes! They were recovered in the Haight. Contact Park Station. Case #130982451

Holy ····! That's my bike. The cops already came out today to file a case number. Wow@!
Thank you!!! |
|
Wow! Glad you got them back. That Mx leader is too nice to lose :)

That rocks! Is everything in the same condition?
|
David, had they already stripped all the components from the Colnago?
Sounds like they caught the perps, so that's good. |

great news.

spoke to someone at the station; will be able to get them tomorrow. So glad they caught the perp - sounds like he was a convicted felon; not happy to know he was snooping around my garage in the middle of the night.
Thank you soooo much for posting a link to that twitter feed! I had no idea it existed. |
AWESOME! So glad to hear that this SF Bike Theft twitter is working well!
|
If there's any way you can get them out of the garage and keep them inside the house, do it. My first nice bike was stolen out of my garage on Cumberland St (near Dolores Park) in 1980 and was never recovered. I've kept all my bikes in my "office" room ever since.

Word, keep record of serial numbers and or identifying marks, gashes, dents, color and whatever sets your bike aside from others. |
So glad to hear that this had a happy ending. 10 mins after you posted too!
|
This is great. I was expecting another post where someone forever loses a nice bike and glad it wasn't one.
|
Wow! What a sickening feeling to have such fantastic bikes stolen, and the jubiliation of getting them back in such a short time...fantastico!
|
Wow, great news! I'm glad they recovered them so quickly!

Bicycles Found! Thieves Arrested!

It's an incredible contrast in feelings both to have lost them and now to have found them so suddenly. Officer Friedman and the SFPD Bike Theft unit really are doing excellent work! I cannot say enough positive things about them! I urge you all to support them by following them on Twitter, spreading the word, and if you have the chance buying one of their T-shirts!! They are good guys and cyclists to boot! As per the suspects, they are in custody and are facing numerous felony charges. They were armed and were convicted felons on parole. I was not their only victim unfortunately but I am happy to know that they are going to jail for this one! Thanks for all the help and support received from members of this forum! A very happy ending indeed!!! |
Really happy that you were able to recover your bikes! What a roller-coaster day it must have been. I agree that the SFPD is doing great work to recover these bikes and the twitter account seems to be working.
I realize you may not have all the details, but I'm curious to know how the perps got into your garage. Were there signs of forced entry? I also wonder if they knew you had these bikes. Were they targeting other high-end bikes, or just taking what they could from random garages? |
How did they catch them??? Really happy for you, beautiful bikes!
|
It seems they were targeting these bikes. Other valuables, including bikes, were not taken. I can't say much about the details of the case but it's pretty scary that guys like this are out there and that there is a market for stolen bikes that would warrant this kind of behavior.
Lock them up (bikes and thieves)!!! Quote:
