It does make one wonder....but I won't let it rain on my fillet fetish.;)

As Dave said, buyer beware, but any good builder worth their salt should send you build picts as Dave does.

I have another theory to add to your list. Beaver tails have a sort of lugless appearance. It's who you are, deep down.

Some very nice examples shown here. And in the instance of the Cinelli, quite unexpected as seeing fillet brazed is something unlike what they have normally output.

This artisan is equally outstanding in both the fillet and lugged genres.

Yes - unfortunately that can happen. I've even seen tig welded bikes 'converted' to fillets with more than a bit of filler.

I owned a fillet brazed MTB many many years ago that was built by one the the masters and it had fillet brazed 'bullmoose' style bars. I crashed it hard once - hard enough to bend the bars badly - and the fillets came off! Nice smooth bondo fillets lay in the mud and rough nasty ones were left showing.

I suppose on one hand it matters little - they look good and will probably stay together. But...........it's still not right and I suppose it's fraud or theft in some way. If one expects that the fillets are well done under the paint but they aren't then the buyer got the short end of the stick. This is why I always send raw photos to the customer so they can see what is under there before it heads off to paint and any good builder should be proud to do so.

Buyer beware I guess.

Dave

Yep, check into the real story of the Cinelli Laser above, if it looks too good to be true...

William, thanks for starting this thread! I loved seeing all the great fillet brazed bikes! I've always heard how nice a fillet brazed bike rode...landshark and tom ritchey just to name a few. I recently got my hands on a ron cooper that was fillet brazed...I know most are familiar with his lugged bikes...so this is a rare bird. I'm planning a respray soon...photos here.

Just wanted to share my new build. Glad to finally join the fillet brazed family. Wish it was entirely fillet brazed everywhere but it rides like a dream so I can't really complain. It is a little long in the TT though.

My riding buddy's Bilenky...purchased here from a Formunite and tidied up by yours truly. Absolutely stunning fillets and paint.
